How it works

  1. List your collaborators. Add everyone who contributed — artist, producer, songwriter, featuring, mixing engineer — and give each a role.
  2. Set master and publishing shares. Enter each person's percentage on both sides. The calculator checks live that the master shares total 100% and the publishing shares total 100%, independently.
  3. Export the split sheet. Optionally enter a revenue amount to see each person's money share, then export a clean, signable split sheet PDF with signature lines for everyone.

Features

  • Two-sided model done right. Master and publishing are split separately — because they're paid by different sources — and each side must total 100% on its own.
  • Live 100% validation. Both totals turn green only when they hit exactly 100%, so you catch a mistake before it reaches a signed document.
  • Money shares. Enter an amount in USD, EUR or GBP and instantly see each collaborator's master, publishing and total share.
  • Signable split sheet PDF. Export a clean document with the track details, the full breakdown and a signature line per collaborator.
  • Private and free. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. 5 free PDF exports a day, no account needed.

FAQ

What is a split sheet?

A split sheet is a simple document that records who contributed to a song and what percentage of the royalties each collaborator owns. It usually covers both the master (the recording) and the publishing (the composition), and is signed by everyone involved. It isn't a contract on its own, but it's the written agreement people refer back to when registering and collecting royalties.

Why are master and publishing split separately?

They are two independent sets of rights, paid by different sources. The master is the actual recording — streaming and download income flows to it, usually through your distributor or label. The publishing is the underlying composition (melody and lyrics) — it's paid as songwriting royalties through a collection society such as SACEM, ASCAP or BMI. A person can own a different percentage on each side, so each side must total 100% on its own.

Does each side really have to add up to 100%?

Yes. The master shares must total 100% and the publishing shares must total 100%, independently. The calculator checks both totals live and turns green only when each side hits exactly 100%. It won't let you export a split sheet while either side is off, so you never sign an invalid document.

Is the Split Calculator free?

Building your splits, adding collaborators and seeing each person's percentage and money share is completely free and unlimited. Exporting the split sheet PDF uses one of 5 free exports a day, no account needed. AudioKit Premium removes the daily export limit. Everything runs in your browser — no file is uploaded.

Is the exported split sheet legally binding?

The PDF is a clear, signable record of what everyone agreed to, with signature lines for each collaborator. It's the standard document the industry uses, but it isn't legal advice. For high-stakes releases, have a music lawyer review your agreement.
